Casual Support Worker 

We’re looking for a friendly, caring and reliable Casual Support Workers to support young people in a safe, fun and welcoming environment. Flexible hours available.

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • The support workers role is to supervise and support the children and young people during activities. 

  • Staff are also responsible for assisting with social interactions between members where needed. This might include explaining the rules of games or helping someone understand the feelings of another member. 

  • Staff  should encourage independence and peer on peer support where possible. 

  • It is perfectly acceptable to observe activities without joining in or talking to the members if this helps encourage the above. 

  • Staff should make an effort to help members understand what happened if things go wrong rather than reprimand them. . 

  • Being able to manage challenging behaviour calmly and appropriately is essential. This might mean removing other children out of the way of an upset member, seeking assistance from other staff or calming an upset person.

Casual Support Worker Essential Criteria

  • CSW’s need to be eligible to work in the United Kingdom.

  • CSW’s must be over 18 years of age.

  • CSW’s will undertake an enhanced DBS check.

  • Safeguarding training is required, and we’ll provide support for this.

  • CSW’s will be familiar with the policies and procedures related to youth groups.

  • CSW’s should only agree to cover sessions that they are feasibly able to attend.  

  • We’re looking for someone who’s happy to work as part of a team and collaborate with other volunteers and staff.

  • You’ll need to respect everyone’s privacy and keep group matters confidential.

  • We value understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion, especially in relation to neurodiversity.

Volunteers

To support autistic children and young people by helping to create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment where they can socialise, develop new skills, and participate in a range of activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and support children, young people, and their families during group sessions.

  • Assist with planning, setting up, and delivering activities, including games, arts and crafts, sensory play, and social events.

  • Encourage participation while respecting each individual's communication style, interests, and support needs.

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support when appropriate.

  • Help promote a positive, inclusive, and respectful atmosphere for all attendees.

  • Support staff with preparing and tidying activity areas before and after sessions.

  • Observe and follow safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality policies.

  • Report any concerns regarding the wellbeing or safety of a child or young person to the appropriate staff member.

  • Work collaboratively with staff and fellow volunteers to ensure sessions run smoothly.

Skills and Qualities

  • Friendly, patient, and compassionate.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Reliable, punctual, and committed.

  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn about autism and inclusive practices.

  • Respectful of diversity and individual differences.

Desirable

  • Experience working with children or young people.

  • Knowledge or understanding of autism or additional support needs (training can be provided).

  • A willingness to participate in training and ongoing development.
